Fourth Grade Choice

Fashion Star’s championship episode saw the aspiring designers envisioning and executing nine ensembles overall, a trio for each of the retailers. Following three merchant specific showcases and a caucus which included both the buyers and the mentors, Kara Laricks, the former teacher who amassed this season’s most purchases (eight) and revenue ($630,000),was selected as the combatant whose pieces will populate hangers inside H&M, Macy’s, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

I positively adore this white mini ($325), which one can observe both inside the aforementioned Saks Fifth Avenue and upon Dictionary.com directly under the phonetic ver-sa-til-i-ty. Pair this piece, a spring and summer must have, with enchanting jewelry and shoes, ostentatious diamonds, or sophisticated pearls.

This Amanda Blouse ($70) is a superlative compliment for either these Michael Shorts ($60), a bootcut or skinny pair of jeans. If only the shorts are your selection, conclude your attire with a floral or printed top.

I climax my compressed review of Kara's ingenious collection, which includes more than thirty pieces, with this utilitarian romper ($40). Accentuate this apparel with vivid jewelry and a dazzling pair of heels or wedges from my Sunday Shoe Series (Keep Makin Me Ill). I especially love (emphasize LOVE) the thought of this article with the exquisite Jessica Simpson (Fashion Star judge of course!) 'Blairee' Sandals I profiled this past weekend.

Future Theorized, Past Irrelevant

Fashion Star’s triple elimination, duel piece, one sale could not ensure retention penultimate challenge saw seven sales as the aspiring designers sought realization of the buyer’s request for a comprehensive collection. Despite this evening’s and more significantly, this season’s overall performance; Nicole Christie (H&M), Terron Schaefer (Saks Fifth Avenue), and Caprice Willard (Macy’s) stunned me as I knew they would, advancing Ronnie Escalante, Kara Laricks, and Nzimiro Oputa into this series six million dollar finale.

Ronnie Escalante not only received an invitation into the decisive episode, he became only the third combatant north of $400,000 sold as H&M acquired his quintessential dress ($40) and Macy's acquired his chic and urbane suit ($208).

Kara Laricks thought about consumers shopping retailers whose name is not Saks, as she chose H&M as the destination for this adventurous dress ($25) and Macy's as the destination for this sophisticated trench ($99).

Despite Orly Shani registering this competition's second most prodigious production ($430,000 sold), including a triad of ninth episode vestments, she was still one of a pair of participants who are north of Nzimiro, yet eliminated. Celebrate the Tuc and Wes founder with a purchase of her contemporary trousers ($25), innovate blazer ($40), or my personal favorite, this striking sleeveless dress ($295).

While Nikki Poulos finally presented a piece which was not a Maxi dress, this unique and uninhibited striped dress ($295), which Saks procured, she was still one of a trio of competitors with five sales recorded and without a decisive episode reservation.

Campaigns Strike Like A Bullet (In The Head of A Designer)

Fashion Star’s Glamour accredited single image campaign challenge saw a quartet of aspiring designers amplify their creations with perfect pictures, while a trio conceived and executed exhibitions which resembled Polaroids from the edge. Unsurprisingly, Kara Laricks and Saks collaborated for a sixth occasion, Luciana Scarabello registered her fifth consecutive sale, and shockingly Ross Bennett’s female hunting vest proved a fatal self inflicted wound.

Luciana Scarabello, whom I predict will be America's Fashion Star, scored her third Saks sale with these audacious dresses. The classic black ($295) and fun floral ($325) are perfect for any female stalking a modern and sophisticated, yet spunky edge.

Kara Laricks surpassed a half million dollars sold as Saks (who else) exceeded H&M and secured the NYC native's spunky collared shirt ($235). Pair this piece with black leggings or jeggings, sharp jewelry, and whimsical wedges.

Nzimiro Oputa became the initial male combatant north of $300,000 sold courtesy this super amaze elbow patch cardigan sweater. While Nzimiro knows how to design for a man, he certainly got this look right on the dot. Acquire this staple in oatmeal or heather gray (as seen above) ($119) and compliment with a bright or neutral t-shirt, dark washed denim jeans, and Converse.  

While Ronnie Escalante's personal narrative, which he shared within this episode, was endearing; I was much more enlivened and inspired when I witnessed his beautiful blue mini dress which H&M obtained ($40).  Purchase this H&M definition of elegance with a modern twist and conclude the ensemble spectacular jewelry and nude heels or wedges.

Faith & Consequences

After Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson, and John Varvatos proffered the aspiring designers both concepts and inspiration, half of the entrants harnessed the mentor's advice, while the other half scorned the buyers for not relishing their vision. Ultimately, Luciana Scarabello became the first with purchases from each of the three retailers and Sarah Parrott learned if only one retailer accepts you, you are the apparel equivilent of Dough In The Box.

Luciana Scarabello, not only achieved the milestone previously mentioned, she additionally became only the third combatant with four-plus overall sales and only the second combatant with four consecutive sales. The Magic City native enticed H&M with this eye popping, yet exquisitely feminine mini ($40).

Orly Shani, following consecution programs ensnared within the bottom pair, finally recorded her third sale, inducing H&M with this chic and sassy blue sleeveless mini ($35).

Ronnie Escalante, this week's sole selection of Macy's, registered his third consecutive sale with this cosmolitan one shoulder gown ($169), perfect for any event and perfect with statement jewelry and heels.

Kara Laricks, via John Varvatos emphatic plea, scored her fifth overall and second consecutive foray with Saks. The NYC resident's crisp wide leg pants ($195), super stylish high waisted plaid shorts ($140), and refined three button blazer ($350), designated her as the sole combatant north of $400,000 sold.

The Spice For Competition

Fashion Star's sixth week watchword was variety as the aspiring designers challenged themselves with concepts as tempting as a cyanide and mahogany splinters cocktail. Ultimately, Kara Laricks and Luciana Scarabello scored their second six figure offers; Ross Bennett and Ronnie Escalante scored their second consecutive offers; and Barbara Bates creation may have been Winter Kate inspired, but the Chicago native's collection has Shady Limited's future.

Nzimiro Oputa may still perceive women's bodies as "weird," but his fabulous mini ($30) should score as high with female shoppers as the piece scored with H&M.

Ross Bennett was the second selection of H&M with a sexy two piece lingerie set which your significant other will crave almost as much as you will crave the price, a delicious $15.

Luciana Scarabello's second sale is as monetarily and stylish impressive as her initial triumph. This adorable Cropped Collarless Metallic Jacket, the choice of Macy's, costs only $99.

Ronnie Escalante's classic, simple one piece suit is not only appropriate for any physique, the mysteriously transparent front detail is a banquet for the imagination. Christen your summer with a purchase of this suit inside Macy's ($89).

Kara Laricks and Saks should transition their status from "in a relationship" to "engaged" as she and the retailer consorted for the fourth occasion with this layered Chiffon Dress ($375).

Five Succeed In Business, Five Appear As If They’re Not Even Trying

Fashion Star's fifth week tandem and trio challenge saw half of the aspiring designers achieving a commercial vision, while the other half endured the demise of The Singles Table. Ultimately, Sarah Parrott exceeded $300,000 sold; Nikki Poulos became only the second participant with four sales; and Edmond Newton, ensnared within the bottom three for the third consecutive week, could not elude elimination.

Luciana Scarabello, one of my absolute favorites this season, wowed Saks for the second consecutive week with this classy and stunning Sheath Dress ($295).

Sarah Parrott flashed her dazzling design skills and secured the love of H&M for an astonishing fifth consecutive week with this reversable jacket. While Sarah's pieces fly from the shelves, maybe you'll be fortune and score this incredible piece for just $30.

Nikki Poulos was also the selection of H&M for the second consecutive week. This bright and sassy maxi dress is perfect for a day in the sun ($20).

Ross Bennett represented Texas and won both Jessica Simpson and Macy's hearts with this Cropped Double - Breasted Vest ($59).

Ronnie Escalante finally scored his initial sale with this incredibly sophisticated Sleeveless Low-V Sheath Dress ($119). Sprint into your local Macy's, purchase, and pair with adorable flats or simple heels and a timeless pearl necklace.  

Buyer's Draw A Line And It Was Not Yellow

Fashion Star's fourth week high end\low-end challenge saw a savvy quintet scaling the ladder of success and an unlucky seven perilously clinging onto the rungs. Ultimately, Sarah Parrot achieved $240,000 sold, Kara Laricks and Nikki Poulos registered their third sales, and Lisa Vian Hunter learned even a supportive Nicole Richie tweet cannot preclude elimination. Following three futile exhibitions, creative and funky Barbara Bates finally scored her initial sale as Macy's chose both her high end Sleeveless Printed Halter Shirtdress ($99) and low end Sleeveless Hooded Halter dress ($79).

Luciana Scarabello left Ronnie Escalante as the sole designer sans a sale, as Saks chose her timeless Beaded Dress for $225. Easily pair this piece with black, nude, or silver heels and simple jewelry.

Kara Laricks continued living the maxim high risk equals high reward as this rocker vibed Tailcoat Jacket ($395), notched her third consecutive sale with Saks.

Nikki Poulos catalogued this season's eighth sell out with her maxi dress ($35), which was one of two H&M selections. If you are among the fortunate who wrest one from the hanger tomorrow, meld the garment with neutral jewelry as the expressive print is sufficient for ensnaring attention.

H&M extended their courting of Sarah Parrott into a fourth consecutive week, as the retailer purchased both her revealing white cutout mini dress ($40) and scorching red mini dress ($25). Amplify the already elevated volume of each frock with energetic heels or wedges and statement volume.

Sell Me More, Sell Me More

Fashion Star’s summer themed third week saw half of the aspiring designers sprouting $50,000-plus offers while the other half withered upon the runway. Ultimately, six pieces were purchased and Lizzie Parker learned one week your clothes are upon the store’s hangers, the next week you’re hanging out with your clothes at home.

Sarah Parrott was chosen by H&M ($30) for the third consecutive week. This adorable print maxi dress, an exquisite choice for both spring and summer, is perfect for pairing with a smashing pair of wedges and oversized sunnies. Sold out online in an astonishing ten minutes, a limited quantity will be available inside your local H&M tomorrow morning.

H&M astutely chose Nzimiro Oputa for the second consecutive week ($25), as these super awesome striped shorts are great for afternoons spent on and off the beach. Also sold out online, snatch them at your local H&M Wednesday and pair them with a neutral shirt and sandals.

Nikki Poulos scored her initial order with Macy's selection of this jumper ($79). While I am not a jumper's biggest fan, I absolutely love this fabulous lavender color for warm weather. Gorgeous on virtually any skin tone, merge this jumper with a great pair of wedges for the core of a successful ensemble.  

Macy's also chose these fresh and fierce floral shorts which were the design of Texas native and Jessica Simpson fav, Ross Bennett ($59).  Available in the above floral, green, and pink; these shorts will splendidly compliment any top or blazer. Add a chunky heel or flat and run the town in this sweet and sassy look.

Orly Shani's bright and brilliant ensemble ignited this season's second bidding war, which Saks Fifth Avenue eventually won ($295). This dress should be accesorized with a cute cuff and a dainty necklace and coupled with a pair of heels or wedges for summer. Toss your hair up in a bun and add some stud earrings for a cooler looking effect.

Kara Laricks, the choice of Saks for a second straight episode ($225), showed these plaid pants, perfect for any sophisticated event, as well as meetings, the office, and lunch with friends. Complete the ensemble with a neutral blouse and add cute flats or heels.



Second Chances, Duel Supremacy, & A Spectacular Pair Of Pants

During Fashion Star’s second episode, Kara Laricks resurrection ignited a game of show me yours and I’ll show you more, Nzimiro Oputa and Sarah Parrott showed consistency is an incomparable accessory, and Oscar Fierro could not skirt elimination again. Check out the quartet of designs which H&M, Macy’s, and Saks purchased this week.

Lisa Vian Hunter was selected by Macy's ($99). This design had me obsessed, screaming at the TV with excitement, ready to hit the store in the morning. Easily worn to a summer party or church on Sunday.

While Nzimiro Oputa was chosen by H&M last week, he was the apple of Macy's eye. ($70). This contrast - trim western shirt is easily worn to work on a weekday or an afternoon lunch on the weekend.

Kara Laricks was ultimately chosen after Saks scorched H&M in a bidding war ($325). This Plaid Shift Dress, depending on how you accessorize it, can be worn for a more casual night out or fancy event evening.

For the second week in a row, Sarah Parrott was chosen by H&M ($20). These simple, sophisticated tuxedo pants are perfect for work, play, or your next major experience. They sold out in twenty minutes online, but be sure to check your local H&M store tomorrow morning, as a select few pairs still remain.

From Television To Reality

NBC's Fashion Star, an inspired concept bridging the runway and retail aspects of the apparel industry, premiered Tuesday with a ninety minute episode. The reality competition not only features clothing and fragrance billionaire Jessica Simpson, House of Harlow 1960 and Winter Kate founder Nicole Richie, and former GQ Designer of the Year John Varvatos counseling participants, H&M, Macy's, and Saks Fifth Avenue buyers have the option to place orders, allowing viewers to purchase the aspiring designer's pieces either online immediately or the following day in store. Below are this week's winners and watch an all new Fashion Star next Tuesday (10:00 pm).

Sarah Parrott was chosen by H&M ($20). This adorable, chic mini would be cute with a pair of wedges or pumps and simple jewelry.

Nzimiro Oputa was also chosen by H&M ($50). This blazer is great for a day at the office and easily transferable to a date night with your significant other.

Lizzie Parker was chosen by Macy's ($79). This tunic is great for a day out shopping with flats or dinner and a movie in sassy pumps.
